Creative Fatigue

Concept

Creative fatigue is response decay within a fixed audience: the same people see the same ad repeatedly and click and convert less each time, while delivery economics (CPM, reach) stay roughly stable.

Layman Explanation & Analogy

The billboard you noticed on Monday becomes invisible by Friday — not because fewer people drive past, but because every driver has stopped seeing it. New creative restores attention; more budget behind the tired creative just buys more ignoring.

Worked real-world example

A prospecting creative holds 2.1% CTR at launch; by week five at frequency 5+, CTR is 0.9% (43% indexed) while CPM is flat. Retiring it below ~60% indexed CTR and rotating a new concept restores response without touching targeting.

What people get wrong & common traps

Fatigue shares rising frequency with audience saturation but needs the opposite cure — confusing them wastes creative on a targeting problem or budget on a creative problem. Read CTR decay (fatigue) against reach flatness plus CPM rise (saturation) before acting.
